Rutland Rescue Mission - Emergency Shelter
Shelter:
Emergency Housing for Homeless
Fair Haven Concerned aids homeless folks in the search for housing. Homeless folks in our area live in tents, in old cars, in someone else's place, or in a hallway. Many are veterans or single parent families. Many are working but cannot afford rent and all of the deposits needed to start renting. We help provide short-term emergency shelter, find apartments, and connect people with others who help.
Referrals to housing agencies:
Rutland West Housing works actively in our area helping people to renovate dilapidated housing, and assists numerous families to purchase their first home. We cooperate actively with Rutland West and an array of agencies working on housing needs in our region. If you contact Rutland West you will learn more about how YOU could own your own home. You can talk with a home ownership counselor and/or to sign up for their seminar to prepare you so you CAN become a home owner, call (802) 438-2303.
We also participate in a team of other groups in our area that are working to improve housing and help families and neighborhoods, the Rutland Housing Coalition. This coalition provides case management to homeless individuals and families. A family services specialist will be hired to triage the needs of the homeless, and assist them in maintaining housing. The collaborators with the program include members of the Rutland Housing Coalition, which is a collection of 39 agencies and individuals. This program has already secured grant funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that began in October 2001. To learn more about the Coalition, here’s an e-mail about some of their work. http://csf.colorado.edu/mail/homeless/2001/msg00578.html
Rent Assistance:
Families and individuals face enormous challenges gathering deposits needed to rent an apartment or home. We work with folks to make a new beginning.
Help Applying for Housing Aid:
Applying for housing aid can be confusing and discouraging. We help our neighbors to obtain applications, complete, and submit them, and advocate when needed.
